Does wine glass size and shape influence how much wine people think there is?

4glassesOur new study, published 23rd December 2015, in PLOS ONE, examines whether certain sizes and shapes of wine glasses may lead people to think there is more or less wine in these glasses compared to other glasses, when there’s actually the same amount.

In particular, our findings suggested the same amount of wine was seen as less in:

  • Larger compared to smaller glasses
  • Narrower compared to wider glasses, for larger portions of wine

These differences could lead to changes in the amount of wine people drink overall. We are currently testing this in field studies.
